Bowen Theory

After studying Bowen Theory with Dr. Edwin Friedman, I have successfully used these principles day after day in my 25-year ministry.

Bowen Theory includes 9 Concepts:

1. Nuclear Family Emotional System
2. The Differentiation of Self Scale
3. Triangles
4. Cutoff
5. Family Projection Process
6. Multigenerational Transmission Process
7. Sibling Position
8. Societal Emotional Process
9. Spiritual Phenomena (an oft overlooked aspect by researchers)

At Saint John's, I've been slowly introducing Bowen Theory to various groups, including our vestry, staff members, in Sunday school classes, and in conversation throughout the parish. It is my great hope that this will lead us to healthier being, living and leading.
