Kirkin' of the Tartans

Saint John's honors is Scottish heritage each year by bringing the clans' tartans into the kirk (the church). According to the legend, Highlanders hid pieces of tartan and brought them to church to be secretly blessed  when the wearing of the kilt was banned in the Highlands. Celebrated across multiple denominations, the Kirkin' at Saint John's welcomes the Wolf River Pipes and Drums, who provide a Scottish-American flair. The service will be preceded by a marching of the tartans and clans outside, weather permitting. Kilts are welcome. All are invited to join, no Scottish heritage required.

An Afternoon of Jazz with the Memphis BoyChoir & Memphis GirlChoir

This recital will feature the Tony Thomas Trio and the Memphis BoyChoir and GirlChoir. The repertoire will include broadway show tunes and jazz standards. The Recital will be about one hour in length.

A Service of Tenebrae during Holy Week

April 1st, 2015, 7 pm

The service of Tenebrae during Holy Week combines scripture and music for Passiontide as we prepare for the Easter Triduum. As the service progresses candles are extinguished following readings and music. The effect of these elements of the service is stunning as the church embraces the darkness of the season. The Memphis BoyChoir, GirlChoir and Chamber Choir will lead the music for this service.
