North of the chancel and behind the organ console is the Working Sacristy where the Altar Guild and the Flower Guild do their important work. Above the linen chest is a mural that is a gift from John de Rosen to the women of Saint John’s in grateful appreciation for their many kindnesses shown the muralist during his more than two-year residence among us. The subject is Jesus on the cross, flanked by Saint Mary, his mother, and Saint John the Evangelist, the namesake of our church (John 19:25-26). This mural measures about twenty-four by thirty-six inches and is painted in silver and gold on dark blue. Its gold tones closely mimic the look of the baptism of Jesus in the Holy Spirit Chapel.
