A Place for Every Child

Saint John's offers a wonderful environment to grow in faith for children ages Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade during the 9:15-10:15 Sunday School hour. Children meet on the 2nd floor above the Parish Hall and classes are grouped according to ages: Early Childhood, Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary. Our curriculum, Holy Moly, offers an interactive and creative opportunity for children to explore the Bible. Thanks to seasoned teachers, Dr. Bill and Dianne Lloyd, Betsy Mitchell, Clair Bradley, Jane Mercer and Beth Campbell who lead our teaching efforts.

If you would like to volunteer to work with our children in any of these wonderful ministries please contact Allison Pace, Director of Children's Ministry at allison [at] stjohnsmemphis [dot] org

During the 10:30 service, children ages 3-10 follow an acolyte up to the 2nd floor above the Parish Hall after the Call to Children's Chapel. This unique small group worship time is led by a rotating team of volunteer parents and grandparents. The children participate in a lectionary-based worship designed just for them. Children rejoin their families during the Peace.

Children's & Family Formation

Throughout the year,  various opportunities for fellowship and family formation are offered in celebration with the Church seasons, special holidays and feast days. These programs are intentionally structured and modeled after the family of God to encourage fellowship within the Episcopal Church. We also follow the model of the Holy Eucharist in the order of our activities: Gathering together, telling the story, praying and sending forth.

Some of our most anticipated events of the year include the Family Advent luncheon, Small Hands Big Hearts service projects, Christmas Eve Nativity Pageant, Highlander Games, Children's Maundy Thursday Service, Donuts with the Donkey on Palm Sunday, Flowering of the Cross at Easter, Pre-YC and Vacation Bible School.

In effort to promote fellowship among families of Children's Ministry, Pre-YC will offer a time of fellowship for St. John's children in a variety of venues and events. Some of these include: service at the Humane Society of Memphis, adopt a Grandparent program, Jumping World, Polaroid scavenger hunt, bowling, Memphis Rox, Seize the Clay, and pool parties. If you are willing to help host and supervise these events, or have suggestions, please email Allison at allison [at] stjohnsmemphis [dot] org.
