Acolyte Team Schedule
Acolytes, LEMs, & Lectors
Acolytes and Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) are the most visible members of lay ministry in the church. Acolytes lead the procession during the worship service and carry the cross and candles. Acolyte means “one who serves”. Also known as Chalice Bearers, LEMs are trained and certified to assist the priests prepare the altar and serve the wine during communion. Lectors are lay readers of scripture during the worship service who read the first and second lessons from the lectern, or missal stand, to the congregation. To join a team, contact the church office at 323-8597.
The Holy Eucharist is a community experience, and we need YOU to make it beautiful and meaningful.
Serve on the Altar Guild and prepare the altar, the holy vessels, and the host for services. Bring a willing spirit and we'll show you the rest! Serve once a month with a team. Men and women welcome. To join the Alter Guild, contact Leigh Robinson at lwrobinson [at] bellsouth [dot] net.
Our parishioners who haven fallen ill and those who are homebound receive a selection of the altar flowers delivered to them by parishioners after church. This ministry brings fellowship and a friendly face to those who appreciate it dearly. You may never truly know how much it means to those whom you visit. To be a smiling face and join our flower delivery team, contact The Rev. Miranda Cully miranda [at] stjohnsmemphis [dot] org or 323-8597.
Ushers & Greeters
Ushers and Greeters are the face of the parish for our visitors, and they are a valuable part of our lay ministry team. Ushers distribute bulletins during service, and they collect the offertory and process the sacred elements forward for communion.
To join an usher team, contact Head Usher, Hugh Mallory: bungalow385 [at] hotmail [dot] com.
Greeters serve before the 10:30 service, welcoming visitors and parishioners and providing information about the ministries of the church. Step up and serve in this valuable and visible ministry.
To join the greeters, contact Dee Bradley: wbradley51 [at] gmail [dot] com.
